FEAR NO EVIL PROLOGUEFEAR NO EVIL-BEGINNING IMAGERY & MONOLOGUE
Pages of a family photo album spread across the bedroom floor. They depict a normal happy family, fauning over a newly born baby girl. They are proud and content, as the pictures span from birthday parties, to picnics. Then the images grow dark and tattered; the back of a balding woman, losing the fight against cancer. A family falling apart.
THE MATRON'S OFFICE
Matron: "Miss Carlisle? Are you listening?"
Mars: Stares intently into the pscychodelic fish tank.
Matron: "Your father has made an appeal to the court. He wishes to see you."
Matron: "Indeed. It would seem he was released prematurally on the basis of good behavior. It is his lawyer's recommendation that we return you to his custody."
Matron: "And I was wondering how that made you feel?"
Mars is being released from The Home. As her monologue progresses in this next scene, she is led through The Home by a nurse, where we see the conditions she has been living in
For The Love of StarbucksThe alarm goes off, this is my first cup I swear
A sip here and a sip there, helps me concentrate
From the machine comes my second source for a dollar twenty-five
By second period I'm looking for change, because that plastic bottle's empty now
At lunch I'm breaking tens and getting "Wows"
So what if it's a liter?
By fourth period I'm going crazy
Not a single drop is left and I don't know how I'll survive another hour
Driving home, another detour
I know this place, it's not far out
They make my favorite cappuccinos
Once home, I kick off my boots
Listen to the "pop" as the cap comes loose
Now I know what you're thinking
Yes I am confessing
I couldn't live without caffeine
The Bride That Wore Red"A tragic crime"
A day to mourn
Black was the deed
Red were the tracks they found her on
"Who could have done such a thing?!" they cried
"Why it was He," said I, for I know her well
"He?" they queried
"Yes. The soldier who went to war."
"The bravest of us all."
"The boy who broke her heart."
"The boy that never came home."
Creature in the CanvasA thriving cell in a mother's womb
A tube of ink the umbilical chord
Red paint pumping through the veins
A life drawing am I
Paper is my tissue
Wax is my bone
Thought and form the stroke of a brush
A rough draft becoming layer by layer
A mixed media of a masterpiece
For I am to art as art is to me
Sonnet for DadIf I were to sing a song for you
It would not be so sentimental
Nor a mournful melody in blue
But it would rock out in Heavy Metal
So you could bang your head and play it loud
All up and down our street
People would hear my tribute boasting proud
Rocking out to your beat
They'd all know how awesome you are
As the guitar solo screamed
And the chorus rhymed in part
They could see just how much you mean
'Cause that's the only way to show
You're just a rock-star layin' low
We Come To LifeThe winter field is not a place of beauty, but a wasteland of thoughts and spirit forgotten
The field of summer lost in snow, it is barren now
Another thing, a different thing, a frozen moth preserved in all its glory
"We shouted, we shook you," you tell me, but there was no hope for creativity
Only chill, drafts of absent familiarity, devoid
After they pierced the ground, and fished me up from repose
After they reeled me back, they packed me under turquoise sand and yellow roses, the scent of an oasis of hope, filled within me
The summer field, gone with the screaming wind of indecisiveness and self doubt
Has its many tasks; the icy current of fluxing air, washing out my brains
The winter field frowns on me, as I frown back, she no longer cares for the creatures that inhabit her
For those hours, I was lost beyond myself
And my body raced without my feet
Which you have long loved well, will sleep for years at a time, did not love you
When you fought to stay awake
